Cogito Research Award – Finalist Shubhangi Dutta

The Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth (CTY) established the CTY Cogito Research Awards in 2013 to enable bright middle- and high-school students to conduct research in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields. Each year, a committee composed of CTY faculty selects winning students who submit the most promising STEM research proposals. These students then receive grants and virtual mentorship to complete their projects.

Shubhangi Dutta, a Year 11 student in our IBDP program, participated in the CTY Cogito Research Award Contest 2016. She was shortlisted as one of the 25 finalists for the award from amongst 250 applicants from all over the world.

She submitted a research problem proposing to study the “Removal of Organic Pollutants and Heavy Metal Ions from Industrial Wastewater Using Activated Carbon Sorbents Generated from Banana Peel Biowaste.”
