Class 5 visit to Nehru Science Center
The students of Class 5 visited the Nehru Science Center to extend their understanding of Light and Sound in connection with their current transdisciplinary theme - How the World Works. The students explored two galleries –‘Light and Sight’ and ‘Sound and Hearing.’
Through their exploration, the students investigated into the properties and application of light. The interactive exhibits, working models and multimedia presentations, assisted in learning about the different mechanisms in the eye that help humans see. Students also gained insight into the various illusions that we experience through our sense of sight.
The ‘Sound & Hearing’ gallery helped students understand how the human brain is designed to perceive a range of sound frequencies. The exhibits added to their understanding of soundwaves and the principles applied in the working of musical instruments. The interactive displays helped students calculate their hearing range, create music with wooden planks and explore acoustic systems. They worked collaboratively as well as individually, making notes of their understanding.
All in all, students were able to visualize the properties of light and sound, which was evident through their reflections and their informative answers during the classroom discussions that were conducted after the visit.
