Exploring Ancient Wonders
The students of Class III embarked on an educational journey to Kanheri Caves, located in the Sanjay Gandhi National Park, Mumbai. The purpose of the visit was to expose the students to the rich cultural heritage and historical significance of ancient civilizations.
Our young explorers were provided hands-on learning experience, as they explored the ancient Buddhist rock-cut caves dating back to the 1st century BCE to 10th century CE. The sculptures, paintings, and relics gave students insights into the lifestyle, religious practices, and artistic expressions of the ancient inhabitants. They marveled at the unique architectural features and religious artifacts depicting Buddha, stupas, and other Hindu rites.
The students visited an ancient monastery and water cisterns that were part of this civilization. They saw firsthand the techniques used by the artists and discussed stories depicted in the paintings and the sculptures. These were a source of inspiration for the students, who learned how art can give us relevant information of eras gone by.
Guided by their educators, the students engaged in interactive sessions where they asked questions and shared their observations. The field trip connected the students with India’s archaic past and drew inspiration for the future. This experience will instill a sense of pride, curiosity, and appreciation for the wonders of history and art.
