Class 5 Field Trip to the Museum

Unpacking the Past

The eager historians of PYP Class 5 embarked on an exciting journey into the past. They visited the Chhattrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sanghralaya to further their inquiry into the ‘History of Man’. This educational journey was aimed at unraveling the mysteries of bygone eras, understanding how relics and artifacts are discovered and preserved, and gaining a deeper insight into ancient civilizations.

On arrival at the museum, our students were welcomed by some expert guides who had an interactive session with the young learners. The students were encouraged to think of history as a story of the past, and the artifacts as characters of the story. The students explored the diverse artifacts dating back to the Stone Age. These relics were found in Maharashtra and have a history of more than 150,000 years. The Museum Gallery also houses artifacts from Ancient Egypt and the Indus Valley.

However, the highlight of the trip was definitely the ‘mummy’. The mummy was well-preserved and it helped our explorers to get a better understanding of ancient customs. The pots, seals, jewellery, toys, and statues found by archaeologists helped students understand the religious beliefs, culture, script, occupations, and daily life in the early civilisations.

The Class 5 trip was a valuable and enriching experience that transported our learners back in time.
