Cocurricular visit to KalaGhoda Arts Festival 2023
The Kalaghoda Art Festival is a large arts community festival held every year in Mumbai on the streets of Kalaghoda and its neighbouring venues in Mumbai. Like every year, we took our Art co-curricular team of 12 participants from Class 3 to 5 on a visit to the festival. The purpose was for students to get a first-hand learning experience at the event.

The last event was with artist and sculptor Arzan Khambatta, based on the theme ‘Zip Zap Zoom’. The students were provided with a variety of materials like paper rolls, foil, straws, and sticks, and he encouraged them to use their creativity and manipulate these materials to create their own zooming space crafts and futuristic shuttles. The students took a keen interest in the activity and had fun designing and creating their own 3D models.
The visit to the Kalaghoda Art festival provided a holistic platform for experiential learning of art and culture in the city. There was plenty for the students to observe and rich experiences and actions to take back with them to reflect on.
We started with a walk down Rampart Row, where they viewed the large installations set up by various artists. They asked questions based on what they saw: who made this? what materials did they use? what does this mean? They walked to the CSMVS Children’s Museum, where they viewed the Art Installation exhibited by 30 schools across Mumbai and Pune, in which DAIS had participated too. They felt a sense of pride to see our school installation as part of this mega festival and took some pictures with their artwork.
