Academic Overview
In keeping with our commitment to providing learning opportunities of the highest standards, DAIS always ensures that the curriculum is comprehensive in breadth and depth and that the latest pedagogical practices are adopted to optimise the teaching efforts and learning strategies. A vertical alignment of the curriculum through K-12 ensures acquisition of progressive levels of knowledge and skills and connectivity of learner experiences, which prepares students for the National (ICSE) and International curricula (IGCSE and IBDP). The horizontal curriculum alignment supports inter-disciplinary learning.
The roadmap for teachers across K-12 makes explicit the expectations for instruction and assessment, with the aid of educational research and an understanding of the 21st century context in which they are teaching. Our teachers focus on fostering in students lifelong learning skills such as inquiry and critical thinking; self-management and social skills; investigation and problem-solving and effective communication skills. They use a mix of whole-class, group and individual activities and instruction that encourages active learning and open discussions, where the ideas of students are both valued and respected.
Students are at the heart of academics at DAIS. Learning is always kept challenging, varied, supported, relevant and engaging. Teachers extend themselves within and after school-hours to support, clarify doubts and motivate students, in addition to facilitating enrichment programmes. Teachers regularly assess the impact of teaching strategies and the level of student performance. The School provides timely and meaningful information that helps parents remain advised and abreast of their child’s attainments and enables them to support on-going progress.
The DAIS Learning Centre provides technology and media resources supporting our learning objectives. Our Learning Centre is less about ‘housing’ information, but more about connecting learners and constructing knowledge. A web-based package, which will allow access to both print and electronic resources, from any computer with internet access, either within the walls of the school, or from anywhere in the world, is being put in place.
