'Postcard' from Latin America

On August 25th, 5 students from Grade 11 attended an online Round Square event - 'Postcard from Latin-America.' The postcard was organised and collectively led by various Latin American schools from Brazil, Peru, Argentina and many other countries and involved schools from all over the world with about 80 participants.

The central focus of the postcard was to converse about the various cultural differences across countries and learn more about the diversity of Latin-American culture.

There were multiple interactive virtual activities conducted, including a kahoot quiz about Latin American culture and a mentimeter. All the students participated enthusiastically in the quiz and gave it their best shot. In the mentimeter, at the beginning of the postcard, the participants from across the world posted their impressions of Latin American culture. At the end of the session, they posted their new views and opinions, having formulated these after discussion and exploration of these countries and culture. During the postcard, the participants were also split into smaller breakout rooms in groups of 5-6 people where they discussed questions about their cultures, countries and cuisines.

All the participants enjoyed the informal environment and the scope for in-depth discussion despite the constraints of the online platform. The event was a resounding success, and every student left content and having learnt something new about Latin American culture. Events like these are the embodiment of the Round Square values and bring together students and teachers from across the world to share their opinions and dismantle stereotypes, helping students have a more open-minded approach.
