Steel City Codes Hackathon
Steel City Hacks was an online, 2-day hackathon organised by Steel City Codes, a non-profit from Pittsburgh, USA. Steel City Codes works towards educating the youth about computer science and coding.
Over 200 participants from 15 countries took part in the hackathon, forming groups of up to 4 people. There were 50 final project submissions.
The theme of the hackathon was sustainability, and the contestants were tasked with identifying a modern-day problem in sustainability, and finding a solution to it.
This hackathon was beginner friendly, and even allowed projects that didn’t include any coding whatsoever as ‘design hacks’, which had equal weightage and importance. The other category was ‘implemented hacks’, which comprised projects with code
One team, consisting of Manit Tanwar and Ishaan Shah, both from class 10A from Dhirubhai Ambani International School, placed first in the ‘Best Implemented Hack Category’, along with a Rs. 14,000/- cash prize. Their project is called panel-it: The Modular Packaging Solution.
Second team was from Grade 7 called the MasterCoders101 consisting of Ayaan Shankta, Azad Parikh, Hridank Garodia and Rachit Gianchandani, won Second place in the Best Design Hack for their creation along with Rs. 9000/- Their project is called EcoPump in the Steel City Hacks competition.
