GEMS Postcard :
GEMS Millennium School Sharjah, UAE
On the 2nd of October 2024, six DAIS students from Grade 7 attended the Round Square Postcard - 'From Storms to Serenity: Blue Skies After Rain’, hosted by GEMS Millennium School, Sharjah. The postcard focused on the idea of hope after several failures. Around 90 delegates from 17 schools across 6 countries including India, Pakistan, South Africa, Switzerland, USA, and the UAE engaged on the call, every delegate actively contributing on the need to develop positive mindsets, setting achievable goals, and the significance of being determined. These learnings from the Postcard are lessons that will stay with them forever.
As the delegates brainstormed to create their Pretask, they started reflecting on one question - What hope meant to them? The delegates had different definitions of hope, including getting good grades, hoping for their favorite dessert on a food menu, or just being hopeful.
Every delegate added beautiful metaphors describing hope, evoking a sense of awareness of the importance of ‘HOPE” and believing in the idea that gloomy rains will be followed with reassuring rays of sunshine.
DAIS delegates shared valuable insights in their respective baraza groups on purposeful pursuit and positive communication through quizzes, games, padlets and more.
Delegates returned with a refined understanding of the meaning of HOPE. They reflected on their new learning about hope not just being an emotion but being a feeling. An opportunity to renew their wrongs to make them RIGHT, a new beginning to become the best version of themselves.
The message that HOPE can help them aspire for their dreams, challenge themselves to bounce back after setbacks, develop resilience and develop positive affirmations in every situation, helped delegates develop novel ways to combat failures accepting them as steppingstones to success. Delegates returned with a newfound spirit to overcome hurdles through finding simple solutions to problems and restore faith in themselves and their capabilities.
