Grade 8 B student, Rudritara Shroff initiates the Corona Quilt Project
DAIS Grade 8B student Rudritara Shroff initiated the ‘The Corona Quilt Project’ by enlisting support from her classmates. It began during the time of Covid to give people an outlet to express their personal pandemic experiences through the designing of a 'square'. Today, the Corona Quilt project takes tangible form, as each of these squares comes together in a community art installation.
Rudritara strived to inspire her classmates to make drawings which visually spread awareness and mobilized our community. Individual squares come together thematically to incorporate a larger message of hope, love and community welfare. To ensure every classmate was included, Rudritara created a square on the behalf of students who were out of town. The quilts that manifested out of these drawings in squares were seen as installations across Mumbai.
“On the Rise”, the presentation on the municipal School on the Sea face, wraps around the facade of the building with over 5000 individual narratives coming together. It draws a parallel from the butterfly- a symbol of transformation, evolution and resurrection. This has been a time of monumental and purposeful metamorphosis, that has given birth to new perspectives and visions. The aim of the presentations was to draw out children’s emotions to depict solidarities and continuities between humans and nature. The concepts embody the present reality of the covid pandemic and our collective responsibility to empower our community. The project took a yearlong time from planning and conception and over 3 months’ time to completion. DAIS students made a difference!
