IBDP CAS – Creativity

"Art is the lie that enables us to realize the truth." Picasso made a fairly keen and discerning observation on the role that artistic impression plays on our collective minds, one that still holds true in today’s rapidly evolving society. As the world is consumed in entropy, it is today’s artists that lead the way towards the beacon of true expression and multi-faceted interpretation. With great zeal these young creatives assemble together every week in the pursuit of artistic expression, each one looking into the environment of stimuli around them from a different perspective. Inspirational in their gallant attempts to break the norms surrounding artistic ability, this club shines bright as a mecca for individualism in thought.

Our world is changing, and often one may find it increasingly difficult to keep up with. Not this audaciously incredible lot. Embracing the fast-paced digitisation of society, the AI club endeavors to develop a deeper understanding into the aspects of computation and its abilities to operate autonomously. With their brilliant leaders, the AI club embarks on an encapsulating journey into the world of computation, data science, machine learning, and so much more! Truly the changemakers of tomorrow, this collective may pioneer a new dawn during the peak of modernisation in society. For the rest of us, sitting on the sidelines and watching them go at it is just a mind-bogglingly dazzling experience.

It is incredible to think that just 40 years ago, the idea of this club would have seemed utterly preposterous. However, in this new era of the 2020’s, computer programming, or coding, has come to dominate the mainstream in technology innovation. And it is because of bright minds like those at DAIS’ very own coding club that India can safely claim to be a powerhouse of change in the world of program development. With the virtuosic prodigies at the helm, the coding club is a force to be reckoned with in terms of the sheer ingenuity it emanates. Truly a symphony of technology backed modernization.

Home is where the heart is and for many of us, our heart lies with food. With a cornucopia of culinary expertise and the tenacity to explore the world around us through flavor, the cookery club is the epicenter of budding master chefs that push boundaries on a weekly basis in the kitchen. Producing delectable treats from a variety of regions around the world, the cookery club is the perfect example of a multidimensional approach to creativity and innovation that has been adopted by the school.

In today's age and time, where ideas and opinions have become so increasingly convoluted, freedom of speech has become compromised. Among the fundamental tenets that we have based our society on, our ability to express ties greatly into the sense of individuality in a population. However, in a world where conformity has become the expectation, our minds are at the threat of being forced into one broad narrative. Undismayed by the changing landscape around them, these unabashed speakers utilize the platform provided by the club to voice out their ability to dissent to prevalent notions, and actively challenge the presupposition of today’s world to not question.

What music is to our ears, rhythmic movement is to our bodies. Dance allows us to indulge in an emotion by letting ourselves submerge into the beat and outwardly display sentiments through the means of aesthetic gestures. At the Dance Club of DAIS, gifted young dancers explore the world of highly technical performing arts. Highly intricate in nature, the dance forms selected by the club will see the members develop the ability to display, with great vigor, the extent to which this group of art forms can be eye-catchingly thrilling.

DROP EVERYTHING AND READ! A slogan that many of us can and should get behind! If the exciting name was not enough to impress, the dynamic nature and approach of the club sure will be. A congregation of teen book-worms, this club emboldens the consumer of knowledge in all of us. Focusing to a great extent on the importance of not just consuming, but dissecting the information we are presented with, DEAR is not your ordinary book club, but an elegantly structured approach to literary discourse.

True to its name, Insignia at DAIS is the absolute representation of student initiative and independence. Centered around portraying the multiple aspects of our school through changing lenses, Insignia champions its cause of letting the community take charge through the means of providing thematic publications that delve into the facets of life at DAIS. Not an ordinary newsletter, Insignia demonstrates, at its core, student creativity and originality above anything else.

Friedrich Nietzche, otherwise known as the developer of the utterly pessimistic school of nihilism, once famously proclaimed, “Without music, life would be a mistake.” Music is the multidimensional gateway to freedom of thought, as all humans in this collective we call society are moved by varying melodies, rhythms or beats. Whether it be the alternative genres of Indie and Punk, or something more classic like RnB and Jazz, the world music affects us all in differing ways. At the center of this extremely vast collection of art forms is the artist, the musician, who uses their instruments or voice to manipulate sounds and create impressions. Fairly technical in its nature, but something that the young maestros at DAIS delve into with great fervor. The Music Club is an ensemble of budding singers, musicians, enthusiasts and more. An orchestra of diversity, the club is symbolic of our collective aim to express artistically using unique methods.

The four letters that haunt a gazillion people all over the globe. Strangely enough, it is also the language with which the universe around us has been written. Everything comes back to mathematical analysis, approaches, applications and interpretations, and the Math Club at DAIS is no different from the voyagers that first daringly set out to explore the world, as they look to swim through the seas of formulae and theorems in the goal of bettering their mathematical understanding.

In a society where international relations are crumbling, war is at nigh, and organized society seems to be lost, is there any hope? The Model United Nations club answers just that question. Equipping its impressionable members with the skills necessary for an international diplomat, the MUN club teaches students about a simulatory representation of the United Nations, the apex council of states that aims to harbor international cooperation and peace. These students are the change makers of tomorrow, as the skills they learn today will be applied into practice tomorrow when the ideals of diplomacy and bilateralism are challenged once again.

Perspectives. A name self explanatory of the multi-dimensional approach adopted by this collective in delving into the community that surrounds them. A publication of life at the school, perspectives look to challenge the normal approach taken to journalism by aiming to highlight different lenses. And leading the charge is a motivated collective that values the ideals of free and righteous journalism above all. A true beacon for hope in today’s world.

An artist attempts to paint the world and its imperfections through the means of their brush. But as a photographer, they capture the colors of reality within moments. A novel form of artistic expression, the photography club looks to delve into the technicalities that come with the elusive camera, and how one can manipulate the worlds of technology and art into one. Coupled with intensive education in the realm of video editing, the club members will explore the worlds of machinery through an expressive and emotive lens, a truly nonpareil approach.

Positive peace, a beautiful name for an organization that aims to instill these exact values within all its members through its unique approach. A hands-on experience that brings together students of multiple grades, the positive peace club breaks away from the normative concepts that back most student-led organizations within this school community.

Robots are going to take over the world! But not in the way many of us may think. Technology is expanding, it is modernizing, and towards the turn of this century, the leading minds began delving into the question of, “Can intelligence act independently?”. The answer to that is yes, yes it can, as the robotics club champions that exact cause by combining knowledge of programming, AI, mechanics, and sheer inventiveness in their attempt to build. Necessity may not be the mother of invention, but ingenuity and skill sure is, as is displayed by this extremely masterful group time and again.

When we look up, what do we see? For all residents in a metropolis like Mumbai, not much. Smog and pollution cover the beauty of an infinity unlike no other. Space is all around us, and the great expanse is just an endless collection of discoveries to be made. The discoverers that form this club hold the same inquisitiveness that we have held in our scientific endeavors from the times of the ancient Greeks, the desire to delve into the beyond. Led by an incredibly adept collection of students and supervisors, this club truly exemplifies the dream every child has to explore the unknown.

Your money matters! Should be obvious, but it really isn’t! A club that tackles all those practical bits and pieces of knowledge that otherwise a school environment generally does not delve into, YMM inculcates a sense of practicality and pragmatism within its members. A collection of young learners coupled with incredibly knowledgeable leaders and supervisors, it is the perfect environs for learning and understanding the human aspects of society.
