Indian Robotic Olympiad

The Indian Robot Olympiad is a true test of one’s ability to understand the world of mechanics and programming applied in unison. A greater challenge, however, is to program robots to play football like humans, which was our case. The Robo Gen II Soccer category presents the participants with a mind boggling puzzle to construct two robots, which could autonomously play soccer against the opposing team. In the robot world, this challenge is extremely hard to crack, as the participants have to determine where the ball is, where the goal is, and how to shoot against the goalie’s defense. Using as little information as the robot could perceive through the infra-red, compass, color and touch sensors, it had to mathematically and logically calculate a best fit solution that would drive it to success. This year the nationals were held in New Delhi between September 27th and 28th. By the day of the nationals at Delhi, after three elimination rounds, the winning team which had two DAIS students, was able to manage a smashing victory of 11-4 in the finals, making them national champions. The top two teams in the country are selected to represent India at the World Robot Olympiad, where they further compete with international participants. This world event will be held in Sochi, Russia from 21st to 23rd November where we would have our robots play this exciting game.
