INDO BAVARIAN EXCHANGE- 2019
Bavarian Trip June 2019 – Report
On the 12th of June, a group of seventeen students from Grade 8 and 9 were given the opportunity to attend an exchange trip to Bavaria; which was an enriching experience that will stay amongst my most memorable experiences. During our 11-day trip we had the chance to visit museums and historical sites to widen our knowledge on the period of Hitler rule, as well as spend two eventful days at the mind-blowing campus of the Bavarian International School. The concentration camp, Hitler’s Eagle’s nest and the museums and documentation centers that we visited exposed me to informative details regarding the Second World War. Along with that, the Berchtesgaden salt mine, traditional Bavarian dinner and the Marienplatz shopping day were exciting activities that gave us insights on cultures and history we didn’t have before. Being allowed to explore towns such as Füssen, Salzburg, Munich and multiple others by ourselves, even if just for a few hours allowed each and every one of us to experience travelling and exploration by ourselves. However, the bus rides and evenings spent playing games, cooking noodles and bonding with each other has allowed me to take back wonderful memories full of smiles that I can carry with me throughout my life. This trip has given me the opportunity to travel to Europe with my peers and two wonderful teachers who enriched this experience for us all. This trip allowed me to strengthen my friendships and make friendships that I will maintain throughout my career. I would recommend this trip to any of my peers and would love to receive a similar opportunity during my school years and would be very lucky to receive one.

The Bavarian Experience – A REFLECTION
The Bavarian Exchange trip has been one of the best trips of my life. It gave us the opportunity to step out of our comfort zone and explore and learn more about German history and culture. Visiting so many historical places like the Dachau Concentration camp, Eagle’s Nest and the town of Nuremburg gave us the chance to take our learning forward out of the classroom and enjoy the culture and lifestyle of the place. On the first day itself we got the chance to taste the traditional Bavarian spinach dumplings which was a whole new gastronomic experience. One of the highlights of the trip was shopping at Marienplatz, we just couldn’t get enough! We spent two days at the Bavarian International School where we attended classes and interacted with students. Since, they had visited our school earlier we had already made some friends and were so eager to meet them again! The school was a wonderful host and the teachers along with the students were so welcoming and hospitable. While we were there we attended classes like math, science and even German. We also realised that even though we were from a different part of the world our school lives were very similar. This trip has been one of the most memorable experiences of my life where I got the chance to learn so much and make new friends.

. I not only learnt about Germany’s intriguing past but also but their culture, manners and much more. The trip made me take a liking in history and also introduced me to a chance of being able to meet new people and step out of my comfort zone. The Eagle’s nest was as amazing as ever with its acquisitive views and shocking altitudes. The Dachau concentration camp was enormous and it symbolized the amount of pain and misery that took place there. The Neuschwanstein Castle was as aesthetic and magnificent as ever. The Bavarian International School was fun to visit, with its many welcoming students. The school was very interesting with its many specialised classrooms for particular subjects.
