Japanese delegation with students on a joint Robotics workshop at DAIS
On Thursday, 16th August, from 9 am to 4 pm, in Physics Lab 2, we had the opportunity to learn robotics from a Japanese Delegation that has visited us. The session was led by Tairo Nomura, Professor of Faculty of Education and Director of STEM Education Research Center, Saitama University, Japan.
Most of the Japanese students were from Grade 11, and ten of us from DAIS, were lucky to have this wonderful opportunity. The session began with icebreakers, and some information about each of our respective schools. We moved on to discuss applications of robotics in our daily lives. Each student from DAIS paired up with a Japanese delegate, and we were all given the task of building a "service robot".
We were given a specific challenge, and each group was given some materials to build a robot that completes the task. We learned about new materials that we hadn't used before, in a hands-on way, while constructing our robots. Each group came up with creative solutions and innovative chassis. The Japanese delegates helped us with the wiring, electricals, and programming. We also learned a lot about them and their culture.
Overall, it was an enriching and wholistic experience, and we are both grateful and lucky to have this amazing opportunity!
