Learning is Fun!

‘Learning is Fun!’ This may seem like a clichéd adage; however after the experience enjoyed by the students of Class 4, this is a reality for them. The vast topic of ‘Animal Kingdom’ was divided into smaller concepts; and each group, comprising of 5 to 6 students, was required to work one concept.

The process of learning took off in the school library and made its way into the students’ homes, where the groups met up regularly to complete the project. The activity involved so much more than Science. It was a great way to hone the students’ research skills, computer skills and presentation skills; as well as to study the topic and learn lessons on teamwork. The groups had the liberty to select how they wished to present their research and findings--as models, reports, charts, power-point presentations, games, quiz, etc.

The knowledge and confidence exhibited by the students was par excellence and praise-worthy. The students were excited to unleash their superpowers and tell their peers all that they had learnt during the course of the activity. The project proved to be a very effective instructional method and was an excellent example of what education experts call active learning or inquiry based learning.
