Maanav Kothari & Aditya Mehta of Grade 11 win award at IRIS National Fair’22
Maanav Kothari and Aditya Mehta of Grade 11 are the recipients of a Grand Award for their project –MOUTHSCOPE, in the category of BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING (ENBM) at the Initiative for Research and Innovation in STEM (IRIS) National Fair 2022 in January’22. They will now participate in the Regeneron International Science and Engineering Fair, 2022 to be held at Atlanta, Georgia, USA from May’22.
As part of their research project, they have designed an innovative product -MOUTHSCOPE. It is an autonomous detection device for oral precancerous lesions using fluorescent imaging and Artificial Intelligence. It scans the entire oral cavity for potentially cancerous lesions without professional intervention. The product envisions making oral cancer screening more widely accessible in rural India.
They have been working on this project since May 2021 and in Dec 2021 their project was selected as top 100 from teams across India. The final round included a research report, Product demonstration, and interview by 4 panellists. The 20 Grand Award Winners were chosen from 100+ finalists.
They will continue to evolve their product and prepare now to compete with 1200+ international teams in Atlanta USA.
