Maya - 'Topper Class' All India Inland Championship 2016
The Wet & Wild Regatta is an annual national inland championship, consisting of 12 races over a span of 4 days, for multiple classes of sailboats including:
Optimist, Topper, Laser, Enterprise, 420, and 470, as well as other water sports such as windsurfing. This year there were over 100 boats in the Regatta. There are usually 4 to 5 All-India Regattas held every year, in different locations, both coastal and inland. Participants come from all over the country, including Bhopal, Chennai, Mumbai, Goa, Hyderabad, and the Pune NDA.
The Army and Navy are actively involved in participating and organizing these events.
Maya started out sailing the Optimist, which is for ages 15 and below, and this August, she started sailing the Topper, which is a slightly larger and faster boat. Having trained and sailed for only 6 months with the Sailing School of India in Mumbai, it was a really fun and interesting experience for her, from which she learned a lot about sailing, and she aims to participate in more Regattas in the future.
