Rimun Report: 2018

RIMUN 2018

Day 1: Opening Ceremony

The opening ceremony at Liceo Farnesina School in Rome was probably the most grandiose event hosted in any MUN conference our delegation has attended to date. It was perfectly organised in a grand hall with delicate Roman Architecture and the flags of many illustrious nations. After a few inspiring speeches by the Secretariat the various ambassadors gave a full overview of their agendas and policies before concluding the ceremony with the banging of the gavel by the Secretary General.

Day 2: Lobbying

On the first day of RIMUN, we arrived at the school to receive our placards and introduce ourselves to our committee, by stating our names, where we were from and a fun fact about ourselves. The delegates came from various places, including Germany and Brazil. We began lobbying with each other for the rest of the day, forming blocks and discussing agendas. Later, after lunch, some committees discussed a 'fun' resolution to understand the procedure conducted in RIMUN.

Day 3: First day of Committee

Armed with resolutions, the students of the Dhirubhai Ambani International School marched into their committees on the second day of the RIMUN session.

All around us there was a tinge of nervousness in the air, of students frantically learning their main submitter speeches, going through them and correcting them over and over again, but excitement was the emotion that dominated. A day of vigorous debate followed. Committees discussed resolution after resolution, and all around you could only see students hard at work, adding, deleting but through it all, supporting each other in their common goal to make the resolutions perfect. The hard work did pay off, when the resolutions main submitted by some of the students from our school were passed in their respective committees. These included the resolutions of Tara Agarwal, Lekh Parekh, Arjun Pawar, Aditya Bhargava and Insha Lakhani.

Day 4: Second day of Committee

This day of RIMUN 2018 was yet another fruitful day for the delegates representing Dhirubhai Ambani International School.

The zest of the previous day accompanied the delegates this day as well, and once again we saw delegates hard at work, presenting and perfecting resolutions and proposing solutions to make the world a better place, and playing important roles in their committees through their delegations, to rid the society from problems that stagnate it.

Seeing the accomplishment of their fellow delegates' resolutions, the delegates whose resolutions were to be discussed today, were inspired to succeed. Indeed, our students did exceedingly well, and the resolutions passed today were of Aditya Dalal and Avana Patel.

Day 5: Third day of Committee

The last day of the RIMUN conference saw the culmination of the hard work and passion of every DAIS delegate. With plenary sessions and final speeches delegates strived to ensure that every delegate's voice was heard. Each resolution was thoroughly debated till a clear consensus was reached. Towards the end of the day, even though every delegate was tired from all the exhausting hours of arguments, they were happy and content to have stepped out of their comfort zones and exhausted their capabilities. The closing ceremony started with a lively and energetic percussion performance with the waving of flags from each nation represented. The chairs gave heartfelt and teary speeches, moving their delegates. The distribution of awards ensued with the DAIS delegation bagging several. The ceremony concluded with the presentation of a short video that perfectly encapsulated the RIMUN spirit. With bittersweet memories, the delegates exited Auditorium Massimo, armed with a greater understanding of the world around them and friends that would last a lifetime. RIMUN 2018 was truly one to remember.
