Round Square International Service Project
King Constantine medal Ayaaan Shah
Every year, the King Constantine award is given to that student who shows exemplary work in service to the community, thus creating a long-lasting impact.
Due to the unique situation of the year, we also considered demonstration of determination and tenacity by the student to pursue the service in spite of the pandemic. The winner of the Round Square King Constantine Award this year is IBD Year 12 student Ayaan Shah.
Ayaan Shah was considered for this award after examining his project impact, credibility, and his willingness to make a difference to the community.
Ayaan Co-founded ShareMeds in 2019 with the primary goal to reduce medicinal waste and to transfer these resources to the underprivileged sections of society. He set up the supply chain to the local(government) hospital to donate all collected medical supplies, coordinated with a panel of doctors to build awareness of precautions against COVID on virtual platforms and tied up with a network of societies chemist for the collection drive. Ayaan’s company ‘ShareMeds’ has collected more than 19,000 medicines and other medicine-related equipment (syringes, wheelchairs, crutches, etc.), out of which approximately 6,000 were collected during the pandemic. He set up 25 collection drives in more than 25 different buildings all around Mumbai (from Malad to Marine Drive) and at events like Ganpati celebrations and Paryushan, and partnered with various institutions like the Jain Upashraya and Indian Medical Association.
Sharemeds now receives medicine through courier and also through drop-off at collection centres. All these medicines are donated to charitable clinics providing free medical care.
The following are some letters of appreciation Ayaans initiative received from charitable clinics where medicines were donated:
We wish Ayaan can continue to pursue this initiative and help others with his service mindedness!
