Specail Bond Grade 6 visits Jai Vakeel Foundation

On October 14, students of Class 6A and 6B and some Year 11 CAS students interacted with the students of Jai Vakeel Foundation. In a short presentation we learnt that Jai Vakeel Foundation provides holistic education and support for differently abled children between the ages of 3 and 18. The school has worked tirelessly even through the Covid Pandemic by supplying educational support digitally to its students. It was through this digital medium that the hour-long interaction between the sixth graders and the Jai Vakeel students was planned.

After introductions, the DAIS 6 grade students performed a skit, narrating the story of Navaratri in an engaging way. Next, it was time for a game called - “Know Your City”. In this, the JVF students were quizzed about their city, Mumbai. Following this was a song medley where DAIS 6th graders played popular tunes that were promptly identified by the enthusiastic Jai Vakeel students.

Guess the song!

In an endeavor to also highlight hygiene and safety during the pandemic an innovative activity of identifying products through advertisements generated an enthusiastic response. Jai Vakeel students demonstrated their awareness of covid protocols very effectively. This was followed by a skit on the Ramayana and when challenged with identifying the main characters /heroes of the story, JVF students had every answer correct.

This was followed by a lively dance where the Jai Vakeel students were taught some groovy dance steps. We concluded the event with a Diwali lantern making session which brought the vibrant festivals of Navaratri and Diwali into the homes of the participants.

It was indeed a superb interaction! An hour flew by quickly and with a hope in our hearts and a smile on every face we wished each other Happy Dussehra and a promise to meet again. Such interactions strengthen our commitment and bonds with our local communities and create an awareness on how we need become global citizens, a vision shared in our manifesto.

Some reflections from the sixth graders who participated in this online event –

“ When I saw t the JVF students making lanterns and playing fun games with us, it just made me smile and that smile stayed on my face till the end of the interaction. Overall, I am really grateful that I got to meet these wonderful and special people from the Jai Vakeel foundation.”

“It was great to see how much fun they were having and how we can make them happier. They are very keen to learn more and are humble. I and I think the students had loads of fun!”

This was an amazing opportunity for us. It was a blessing to be able to meet and interact with these students.
