Creativity at its best at Om Creations
A Social Service Visit to Om Creations
On Tuesday, 29th September 2015, classes 5A and 5B from Dhirubhai Ambani International School went on a social service trip to Om Creations, in Lower Parel. Om Creations is an NGO that helps young adults who are very special and have creative capabilities. These people are specially trained for 5-7 years before they start working at Om Creations. At Om Creations they do arts, crafts, cookery or weaving and the things they make are sold in the market.

On reaching at the centre we were awed at the way the building had been made. There were colourful paintings of different faces on the walls. In the open hall, many of these talented people sat doing different activities. There were many other rooms – being used for printing, art, craft and cooking. We were split into groups and either taking the help of these young adults or aiding them with their work, we strung tags onto woven red bags, wrapped delicious chocolate imprinted with the letters ‘OM’, painted unique lamps for Diwali in bright colours, strung petals onto thread to make pretty flower garlands and printed beautiful, pink patterns on fabric. We re-painted the lamps until they were perfect and then we arranged the lamps colour-wise in wooden trays. Then we helped clear up the work space provided for our painting.
Finally it was time to leave and everyone was sad that we had got to spend so little time with the people at Om Creations. They thanked us for coming and we too gave a thank you speech for our wonderful experience. They presented us with the same chocolates we had wrapped and then we boarded our bus, but not before bidding them farewell. It was truly an amazing experience and we had learned a lot from our visit.
