Yashish Mohnot of Class 8 received the 'Best Project Award' at First Lego League Competition held in Johannesburg, South Africa.

FIRST LEGO League is an international competition organized for elementary and middle school students in different parts of the world.

In September each year, a new challenge is announced that focuses on a different real-world topic related to the sciences. Each challenge within the competition then revolves around that theme. The robotics part of the competition revolves around designing and programming Lego Mindstorms robots to complete tasks. The students work out solutions to the various problems they are given and then meet for regional tournaments to share their knowledge, compare ideas, and display their robots.

The theme for FLL 2014 challenge was "To make Learning Fun". Yashish along with his team members called themselves as 'Mayday Returns'. They designed a multi media multi sensory game named 'Funetics' to help a 6 year old dyslexic child to read. They went to many remedial teachers, paediatric neurologists, MDA ( Maharastra dyslexic Association ) to understand the challenges faced by a dyslexic child. After lots of brainstorming, they made this game based on the rules of Phonics. Funetics provides multi-sensory teaching, which is visual, auditory and tactile, to enhance memory and learning.

Team Mayday Returns has demonstrated Funetics to 44 teachers and 130 students and received very encouraging feedback. They have also demonstrated to various schools and they have worked at 'School of Life' for 13 weeks with 12 children.

The team also collected a donation in excess of Rs 5 lakhs for Muktagan NGO and School of Life which will be utilised for upgradation of education facilities for Dyslexia students.
