Sandeep Tandon

The leadership series has a kind of formal and advisory nature that works very well and has its own merits however Mr Tandon’s witty and interactive speech offered a refreshing break from that, giving the students access to the insight of a young, proactive businessmen on the frontier of Indian entrepreneurship.

In 2010 Mr. Sandeep Tandon co-founded FreeCharge which started off as the realisation of just and idea and ended up as one of India’s most successful e-commerce start-ups with 20 million users.

Mr. Tandon sold FreeCharge to SnapDeal in April this year and now focuses on harnessing innovation and cultivating new technology. Mr. Tandon is a venture capitalist who catalyses and nurtures start-ups such as PepperTap, TinyOwl, HelpChat and Porter while also supporting businesses ranging from Infinx Healthcare to Syrma Technologies to Ishaarya - one of the most promising designers of modern Indian jewellery.

Mr. Tandon started off however, the way most DAIS students will, going abroad for college. He got his Bachelors and Masters Degrees from USC in Electrical Engineering but also took courses in film. His refreshing honesty in sharing his hilariously genuine experience was what made his talk so relatable and a just a pleasure to watch.

What was unique about his entire story was that he wasn’t striving to revolutionize an industry or make some table-turning technology but was just looking to satisfy the common man’s needs in the most efficient way possible and this simply brilliant attitude is why he is a modern Indian entrepreneur in the truest sense if the word.
