Our student speaker from this year is Vyom Thakkar from Grade 12. Let his meek and soft spoken demeanour not belie his potential. 17 year old Vyom has been conducting research on using origami designs as an art to develop more efficient engineering implements and drug delivery systems. A creative merger of arts and the sciences, Vyom's talk brings out the still widely unexplored side of scientific art. He believes that origami art can be used to design real-life manufacturing models. He wants to design polymer sheets with premade folds like the origami. He envisions embedding electronics on the sheets which could be used to unfold into commodities of use, right from foldable tables to building structures. His aim is to offer cheap and affordable manufacturing to people at large. It is his strong belief that paper can be creatively used as paper has the potential to transform the world around us. He states emphatically, “ Origami- The old forgotten Japanese art has the key to a better future.”
