DHIRUBHAI AMBANI
INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL
MODEL UNITED NATIONS
(DAIMUN)
The Dhirubhai Ambani International Model United Nations
(DAIMUN) is the largest THIMUN-affiliated conference in India.
After two long years of virtual procedure for both DAIMUN
2020 and DAIMUN 2021, the conference was finally conducted
in person for 2022, from the 19-22 Oct'22. It featured 8
committees: the Security Council (SC), the Disarmament and
International Security Committee (DISEC), the Economic and
Financial Affairs Council (ECOFIN), the Special Political and
Decolonization committee (SPECPOL), the Human Rights
Council (HRC), the International Court of Justice (ICJ), the
Commission on Sustainable Development (CSD), and the
Advisory Panel on the Question of Latin America (APQLA), each
of which covered agendas through the unique lens of
hegemony. The conference was extensively covered through the
newsletter, The Daily MUNtra, as well as videos released daily
through the DAIMUN Instagram page, @daimunmumbai, both
produced by the PRESS CORPS.
DAIMUN 2022 welcomed more than 250 delegates from
schools around Mumbai. Day 1 was replete with extensive
lobbying across all committees, characterized by bloc-formation
and alliance-creation. Delegates became acquainted with
DAIMUN through a short briefing on THIMUN procedure. While
lobbying marked the time for Executive Boards to set the
number of signatories for resolutions and set bloc sizes,
delegates used this time to use their clauses to create
comprehensive resolutions. The school was full of enthusiastic
delegates in their DAIMUN 2022 lanyards, clutching bright blue
bottles inscribed with the DAIMUN logo, ready to apply their
debating skills to formulating solutions for a better world. Day 2
began with the Opening Ceremony, and a welcome speech by
the President of the General Assembly, Dhruv Bhatia, who
established the theme of the conference, 'The Relevance of
Hegemonism in the 21st Century Global Landscape'. Secretary-
General of DAIMUN 2022, Ananya Srinivasan's speech used the
metaphor of an iron fist in a velvet glove to represent
hegemony and the manifestations of hegemonism throughout
history. The Secretariat welcomed the esteemed Chief Guests:
Mr. Achim Fabig, German Consulate General at Mumbai, and
Mr. Gautam Bambawale, an Indian Diplomat who has assumed
the role of both the Indian Ambassador to China as well as the
Indian High Commissioner to Pakistan. The two Deputy Secretary-Generals, Ahaan Jindal and Shreevardhan Agarwal, then engaged in a
panel discussion with the dignitaries, followed by audience Q&A. The delegates engaged in a day of heated in-committee discussions
and perspective-broadening discourse. Committees moved onto new agendas on Day 3, while new amendments were added and
ratified or rejected subsequently. Delegates continued to work tirelessly to continue participating in committee and engage in active
debate. Day 4 was the last day of DAIMUN 2022. The three General Assemblies represented in the conference, DISEC, ECOFIN and
SPECPOL, moved into Plenary, moderated by the President of the General Assembly. Each of the committees discussed their best
resolutions, and voted on them again during plenary, following a round of voting within individual committees. The day ended with the
Closing Ceremony with speeches from members of the Secretariat. Awards were given out for committees, including the PRESS and
Administration Teams. A thrilling aftermovie produced by the videography department did a wonderful job of capturing the essence of
fun and intellectual vividity of the past few days, resulting in a standing ovation from the entire audience. The President of the General
Assembly then declared the conference closed, the final bang of his gavel marking the end of DAIMUN 2022.
DAIMUN 2022 was a resounding success, and a proud moment for the entire organizing team, being a culmination of months of
planning by the Secretariat, the Administration team and the PRESS CORPS. Delegates, Chairs, Administrative Members and the PRESS
CORPS will surely remember the memories created from this conference for years to come.
