Fun with Fitness

‘Fun with Fitness’ was a delightful and enjoyable activity which boosted the physical and mental fitness of all the students, the organizers as well as the participants, as it helped them get healthier. The activity targeted to encourage and motivate students to master distinct forms of exercise that would help work the muscles in the body, and also promote interaction. The activity had a great number of participants, who were divided into three sub groups where they were trained by DAIS student volunteers.

Each session would start off with an icebreaker activity followed by games where students would open up to each other and learn about different fitness routines. Games such as, “Which professional sportsperson would you be and why?” helped students bond with each other. The sessions began with a 10 minute warm up followed by activities that focused on specific components of the body, such as the abdominals or triceps. They performed activities such as crunches and planks for the abdominals, bicep curls and tricep kick backs with water bottles for the arms, lunges and high knees for the quadriceps and hamstrings and mountain climbers followed by a full body workout circuit. The sessions also included tips on the correct postures for exercises and the right nutrition to stay healthy. The highlight of the journey was the final session where the students played an entertaining game of “Spin the wheel”. Here, they had to perform activities that were related to animal names such as donkey kick, gorilla walk and crab walk that added an element of surprise to the sessions. At the end, a feedback session was conducted with the participants, which helped the volunteers understand how they could improve their sessions.

The appreciable feedback and the great review from the students demonstrated that the “Fun with fitness” activity was a great success and allowed the students to get physically healthier and mentally fit over the four weeks whilst also making new friendships.
