Let’s Get Dancing

Let’s Get Dancing sessions were filled with exciting, foot tapping music, easy to do dance steps and the enthusiasm of DAIS volunteers and participants. The aim of the activity was to encourage participants to learn different styles of dance, explore and hone their dancing skills and bond with each other through the medium of dance.

The sessions began with some fun ice breaking activities. Each participant was encouraged to perform their own steps and share their own choreography. Every session started with some stretching and warm ups to ensure that the participants were ready for the dance. Over the four sessions, the volunteers taught the participants different styles of dance ranging from Bollywood. Hip Hop, Contemporary and even choreographed dances using props. They danced to many popular songs like Madhubala, Jai Jai Shivshankar, Ghungroo, Bekhayali and I Don’t Care.

All the sessions were concluded with a five-minute feedback session, which proved to be very helpful and allowed the volunteers to consider different requests of styles and songs, along with giving them an opportunity to better the sessions. For the last session participants were encouraged to send in their own steps dancing to a popular Bollywood song, “Dil Dhadakne Do”. Footages sent by many participants were then put together to make a video of the whole song. This was shared with the participants on the last day as a surprise. The video brought smiles to all faces and acted as a great memoir.

The general feedback to these sessions was very positive proving that they were a huge success. The choreographies and the volunteers were appreciated by the participants. Many of them didn’t want the sessions to end.
