SOULFUL SINGING

The Soulful Singing sessions were filled with fun, learning and interaction. With more than 30 students each week, the singing participants were divided into three batches, led by the student volunteers of the DAIS Round Square Team. The aim of the activity was to encourage participants to explore their vocal capabilities and learn a multitude of songs and rhythms in an enjoyable and interactive manner.

The first session started off with some enjoyable ice breaking activities to create a comfortable space for the participants. The session plan was to teach the students a new, peppy song every week. Before every session, Hindi and English vocal warmups based on the songs being taught, were conducted. The warmups were an important part of the sessions as they helped the students open up their voices and prevent vocal damage. Following the warmups, the students were taught the song in a step-by-step fashion. Tackling small sections of the song at a time made it easier for the students to feel comfortable. By the end of each session, the students and volunteers were all proud of their progress. The last session was a very special one, as they had a fun “Jam Session”, where everyone sang their favourite songs.

The sessions ended with general feedback so that each participant could improve in their own way. Songs were made enjoyable by adding variations and harmonies as well. The overall feedback for the sessions was overwhelming, and the students had a wonderful time. Every singer learned something new with the help of the sessions, and had many positive things to say by the end of it. The list of songs chosen per week are given below.
