Read My Future 2012

The MAD (Make A Difference) Project that our tutorial decided to undertake allowed us to combine aspects of Creativity, Action and Service to make a difference to the education of children in the Kherwadi school supported by the NGO Assema. “Read My Future 2012” allowed us to tackle the problem of the lack of education resources amongst the less-privileged, and also develop an education documentary to educate others about the issue. We have been fortunate to have benefitted from a comprehensive education and amazing library resources at home and school. Our goal was to help others have some of the same experiences we did.

The project was composed of two major efforts but actually three areas of learning and experience. The primary goal was organizing a book collection drive enlisting the help of the rest of the student body at DAIS, the second was to make to spread awareness about education. The third area of experience and learning was both the successes and difficulty in planning, communication, and carrying out a project in collaboration with our own peers as well as a with the school and the NGO-Assema that we worked with .

At the end of the project these were some of the things realized and accomplished
  • 300+ books were donated and sorted various genres (including research and reference books)
  • Development of a Facebook page for our campaign, designed logos and made posters and book marks to promote the campaign at school
  • A awareness/documentary video was produced on the importance of education
  • An auxiliary project was a donation of 120+ pairs of children’s shoes provided to DAIS for the school’s CAS project were given to Kherwadi students
  • A proposal was developed for Rs 40,000 with Assema for submission to DAIS/Fete Committee for funding of lunches for students at Kherwadi
  • The twelve of us learned an lot about planning, coordination, commitment and success and failures of carry out a project like this
  • We also saw the rewards on faces, and in talking with others how the project impacts others.
