AKANSHA

For the last 8 years, DAIS has opened its classrooms for the Akanksha volunteers who are engaged in teaching English and Math to economically challenged children. The centre runs from 3.30pm to 6.30 pm every day; currently there are 41 students.

Our DAIS students who sign up for Akanksha as their service activity contribute by helping Akanksha volunteers prepare lesson plans, raising funds through different activities and in CAS Fete, organizing health checkup for those kids etc.  DAIS students engage in this programme every week for one and a half hours. Our students also volunteer to help Akanksha students prepare for his/her exams.

In the general health checkup and eye checkup camps, 43 Akanksha center children including 2 alumni were examined by qualified pediatricians with special attention to signs of anemia, abdominal worms, malnutrition and other diseases. The height and the body weights of these children were recorded and compared with their previous year’s record.
