the heart of the DAIS service learning activities and equip students with the
knowledge and skills to bring about positive social change.
Students from Class I onwards are involved in community service, with the aim of
achieving three primary goals – AWARENESS, ACTION and ADVOCACY. The age-
appropriate local, national and international service projects and activities involve
planning, action, review and reflection, which create invaluable life experiences.
Service Learning creates the opportunity for purposeful civic learning. Active
community service helps students define for themselves what it means to
participate in a democratic society, and deepens their understanding of individual
leadership and social responsibility. Interactions with the community leads to new
perspectives, and more positive lifestyle choices and behaviour. Our students
evolve as reflective thinkers by applying academic learning to real human needs.
i) Exchange Programmes
Students participate in exchange programmes with students from other schools.
These may encompass a particular school programme or the opportunity to be
part of the community service projects our school is involved in. These exchange
programmes help children develop cross-cultural perspectives and foster global
mindedness. The school's membership of various organisations worldwide serves
as an important platform for these exchange programmes.
Some exchanges may require students to stay in hotels or school accommodation;
others may involve home-stays, and DAIS provides similar experiences when
hosting students from other schools.
j) Off –Campus Study & Activity Opportunities
In line with its philosophy of giving the maximum possible opportunities for
students to enhance their learning and development, and support their work for
community service projects, DAIS encourages students to make use of off-campus
facilities available at Matheran, Patalganga, Nagothane and Jamnagar.
The off-campus facility, situated in Matheran, is approximately 100 kms from
Mumbai, in an idyllic setting against the glorious backdrop of nature, for a range of
cross-curricular learning opportunities. It has conference and performance centres
and an amphitheater. It also has sporting facilities like tennis, basketball, football,
cricket, and handball courts, a jogging/riding track and facilities for indoor games.
Our senior students pursue their coursework assignments, projects, etc here. This
off-campus facility is also used by our physical education department for
conducting weekend training camps, for professional development programmes
